Host City

In 2019, Venture to Astana

The City of Peace

In 2019, we welcome you to Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Rising up from the vastness of the steppes like a glimmering sculpture garden, with a skyline punctuated by gleaming new skyscrapers that seem to defy the laws of physics, Astana is an eye-catching showcase of international, 21st-century architecture and a glimpse into a city of the future. Few cities in the world are changing as quickly and nowhere else in Eurasia do Asian, Western and Soviet-style blend as seamlessly or as chaotically. At its heart, the world famous Bayterek Tower, a national monument steeped in symbolism and meaning, connecting the old world to the modern in a celebration of progress.

Other highlights include futuristic architecture on Nurzhol Bulvar, such as the bold glass-and-steel pyramid of the Palace of Peace & Accord – A place of harmony where leaders of various religions could meet for the triennial Congress of World and Traditional Religions. Experience the exquisite taste of local Kazak cuisines, listen to traditional music and uncover history in the world-class National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Having hosted a number of other prestigious international events—including the world’s fair at Expo 2017 and the Syria talks aimed at ending the eight-year-long conflict in the country— Astana promises to serve as the perfect location to host GlobeMUN 2019.
