Welcome to Astana

The City of Peace

LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL

Dear Principles, Faculty Advisers, parents and students,

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my distinct honor and pleasure to invite you to the first session of Global High School Model United Nations, to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from the 7th to 10th of November 2019. The transformation of Astana from a small town in 1994 to the forward-looking modern city it is today, is an epitome of what we all hope GlobeMUN will become – A world-class, internationally diverse conference that enables students to interact first-hand with the challenges of international diplomacy and engage with topics reflecting the world around them. Delegates will have a unique opportunity to develop vital personal and professional skills, encouraged and supported by highly experienced and passionate university MUNers from around the world. Our goal for this conference and every conference to come is to ensure students leave GlobeMUN having learned about the significant role they play as a citizen of the world, their own skills and abilities, and empower them to use these skills and knowledge to pursue their passions and goals.

Today, people can communicate instantly across the globe, making the world stage more accessible to everyone. The ability to change the world is at our fingertips. We have seen individuals use social media to start revolutions and topple regimes. We have seen individuals build weapons that can wipe out entire nations. We have seen individuals fly across the world to bring relief to people in dire need. We have seen man walk on the moon. We, as individuals, have more power than ever. You have the power to make a real impact on the world.

Our first session will deliver an experience characterized by educational and meaningful opportunity, immersive in-conference trips, exciting social events and a chance to form friendships that will last a lifetime. I sincerely hope that you will be able to join us in Astana.

Sincerely

Simeon Onaji
Secretary-General, GlobeMUN 2019
